Module 4: Low Incidence Categories -How will you implement what you've learned in the field of education?

One of the most important things I've learned through this module is that in so many ways, supporting a student with exceptionalities is also supporting other students. I found this to be true when repeatedly seeing the same strategies called upon for implementation to support a variety of needs. A challenge for me has been not knowing how to support everyone because I've felt like everyone needs something completely different, and it can be exhausting trying to plan this way. If I make sure to make things visual, hands-on, present information in an auditory way, and through words, I should be able to reach most of my students. Figuring this out will help me in my planning and encourages me to be more cognizant about the learners I have and the supports that if shared will help them all. This chart I have compiled can be a handy reference guide that I can continue adding to and utilizing when I need to support a student.
Learning more about traumatic brain injuries through my own exploration for the Category D collaborative document was also very useful for me. It helped me understand to a greater extent the "why" of some of the challenges of one of my learners. This helped me consider some new strategies prior to the IEP meeting a couple weeks ago.
Questions I Still Have
  • If assistive technology is utilized by a student, is the teacher also trained in how to use it?
