Module 6: Process and Programs - What did I know before starting the module?

Module 6 Objectives includes:
  • discover who and what are involved in an IEP
  • summarize the purpose, process, assessment, and collaboration behind an IEP
  • recognize the elements required for an IEP
  • assess case studies and then write an IEP

What did I know before starting the module?
  • I know who are involves in creating and IEP -caregivers, classroom teacher, specialists (occupational therapist, speech and language pathologist, physical therapist, counselor, etc.), resource teacher, SSA (EA),  and sometimes a nurse, the principal, and/or the student depending on the case
  • I know the purpose of an IEP is to come up with a plan to support a student with exceptionalities access the curriculum and/or participate in learning alongside same-age peers
  • At my school, we use strength-based IEPs that really tell a story about the student- elements include interests, ways of learning, strengths and stretches in the core competency area, core competency goals, and(not always) curricular competency goals with objectives and strategies
